can I buy a CV-joint without axle?

Two questions:

Can I buy a CV-joint without axle? This would be for 2002 Impreza 2.5
TS. Delar wants about $230 per set (whole half axle).

Is the rebuilding the CV-joint worth the effort (someone wants $60 per
joint)?
ups, wrong group :-).
Depends on what they rebuild on the joint.

If you just had a tear in the boot and didn't loose all the grease yet
and didn't get any dirt in there yet, you can easily rebuild it.
Matter of fact at that point in time, a new boot with new grease is
probably enough.

If all the grease is gone and/or there is dirt in there, you probably
are looking at damage to the bearings in the tripod, at that point in
time...time for new bearings and such. Can't quite say how much that
runs though, I used to rebuild alternators and starters once, not CV
axles =)
No need to replace the set, just replace the bad one. They will make
all kinds of faces, and tell you it's a bad idea, blah blah blah.
Worked fine on my car.
