Drinks on me!

That's right, it may be early in the day but I'm laying down my credit card.
(snipola)

Congrats Tud! That is one cool freaking bike!

You know, if you put a flag in that flagholder you'll look like the
Nova Scotia Army.
More than you realize, that flagholder is actually a machine gun mount.
Nice! That oughta come in handy during deer season.
I didn't see the spotlight .. Is that an option?
That particular model comes with the spot light, and the jerry can and
shovel. I didn't buy any extras, although I'm likely goig to order a
Ah! The deerhunter package! Do you have a suitable machine gun?
I'm in Canada, where am I going to get a suitable machine gun? I'm
thinking that it might make a good video camera mount.

windshield today. There are other models with different accessories, but
they typically have chrome, which would need cleaning...

Credit card? There's nuttin' left on that thing and ya know it! Put it
away...you can get me back in September IRL.

Schnipped here, there and everywhere
Nah, this round's on me!
Thanks for the Dr Pepper - afa that new rig of yours, I would expect nothing
less from you...considering you choice in footwear 8^). Seriously Tud, looks
like you'll be having a lot of fun with that. Love the colors on it too. Get
some better pics of the paint when you can nK?
Will do, although I must admit, it's not on there very thick, and no clear
coat. Won't break my heart to repaint it sometime. On the plus side, some
tremclad will fit right in with the camo if necessary. I'm thinking bed
liner under the fenders to protect from salt in the winter.

I've been riding bikes off and on since I was 7, but now I feel like a
complete novice again, and I'm loving it. Yesterday morning the missus took

A stunning ride, Tud. Congratulations on the new wheels.

And there you are!
I prefer this one, the goatie makes me look more "biker". LOL(at myself)
That ain't a goatie. That's a full beard with a few parts missing.
THAT is one serious goatee!

"Beertender, a round for the house and doubles for them what can get
whole herds of goats lost in their chin hair! I'm buying."
Thanks for the double Curt. I get thirsty chasin' the goats outta there.

Thanks for the cold HP. Let me get the next round.

we to the bank where we picked up a bank draft and then we headed to the
local Ural dealer, yes, strangely enough we have a local Ural dealer. 30
Yes. Thanks.

It turns out the missus can't make the trip in September, which means I'm
going alone, which means I'm taking the Ural.
...and no chase truck or hangar wire.

Bep coming?

minutes later I was on my way to work on my brand new 2006 Ural GearUp.

You got the Ural I'd get if I could.

What a cool looking bike.
What a great looking ride, Tud. Great pics and little Tud looks like he's
ready to have a blast on that thing. Methinks it will be big Tud in sidecar
all too soon. :) Best 'o luck with the new Urine (sp?).
"Urinal" I believe is the excepted term, Tom can confirm that. I suspect
it'll be some time before the wife lets the boys go for a ride in the hack.
Confirmed!

BTW I sent fuzzy a link to yer pics of he hack, havn;t heard from him
yet, i know he had been busy doing CAS
Hurrah! Congrats on the new scoot!
That is a very cool looking rig! Hope to see it irl real soon.

Way cool rig. The wife wanted one so she
could take Zippy the wonder mutt out for
some rides with her.
She settled for a different option.
I'm expecting all sorts of little issues with it, being Russian and all,
plus with all the things I heard about them BEFORE I got it, but I figure if
I give it the proper attention it should last me for a while, even if it's
looks don't hold up (not that a little brown primer won't fit right in with
the paint scheme if it needs touching up).

Can't believe how big Jake is.
Guess that it's been a few years, huh?
Yeah, he was only around 6mths when we left Florida, so it's been about 5
years.

Don't have too much fun now.
Sometimes it's hard not to.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be adding those to the manual of things to check
during regular maintenance. I'm gonna try to baby this thing and not let
anything slide as far as maintenance goes, which will likely be hard come
winter when I get home from work and it's dark and cold out..hmmm...time for
a space heater in the garage, they should be cheap this time of year.

I knew going into this that the bike will require a lot of attention to keep
it running like new, fortunately the Triumph has prepared me for this.
Excellent addition to the family. You gonna get the optional
pontoons?
I could have used them today, tones of rain.
Sounds like a Windam Hill album. I think I have that one.

Congrats Tud. I have been eying one of those for a couple years, looks
like a lot of fun. I would love to hear every detail, both riding and
wrenching.
Let me piggy-back with a "me too." Seems like it would be a blast for
local rides.
I'll keep you posted on all the little gotcha's, for example I've been told
by other riders to get rid of the Russian rubber gas lines asap. I'm hoping
Thanks, appreciate it and look forward to it. Have fun with it, I have a
feeling that won't be to difficult for ya. First new bike you have
purchased in a long time, eh? In the meantime, I'll tell my single
friends to discard any Russian condoms that they may have in their
possession.

to hook up with another new Ural owner this weekend at a father's day ride,
he's got 900km's on his so far and has a few suggestions.

I test rode the bike previously, but just around their parking lot, taking
the thing out on the road was a whole different kettle of fish. I'm a
novice rider again when it comes riding this rig, in my first big right hand
sweeper I found myself drifting towards the oncoming vette, fortunately I
kept it in my lane. I've got to learn how to ride all over again and get
used to shifting my weight rather than leaning the bike. Fortunately we had
stopped off at Home Depot before the dealer and I had a couple 50lb sand
bags to put in the hack.

Once I got to work I walked up to my office on the thirds floor and got a
digital camera, I then went over to the window and saw that the bike was
already drawing a small crowd:
That is so funny! I'm sure you'll be drawing crowds everywhere you go.

Congrats on the new bike, it's so very unique and way cool!! Tud, the
younger, is a doll too.

In addition to the user manual the dealer gave me a "How to ride a sidecar
outfit" manual, which is basically an instruction manual with exersices that
can be followed for learning how to ride one of these things. My normal
commute consists of a 9 mile ride, 8 of which are on the highway going
against traffic, my other option is the stop and go traffic of the secondary
streets. Not quite wanting to take the bike on the higway yet I opted for
the secondary streets, which gave me a chance to get used to the shifting
and trying to find the right rpms for the smoothest shift. The ride home
went without a hitch, although I'm still taking right hand turns VERY slow.

I snapped another pic when I got home:

I figured garage space would be tight, I just didn't realize how tight.
After some shuffling around of bikes and parts I managed to fit it in. I
took some more pics of the mess, a couple of Jake with the bike, and he
wanted to take one of me so I'm in there somewhere:

I can see a downside to having this bike, kinda like when I owed the Road
King in Florida, but oddly enough not while the Honda has been my main ride.
The downside? Me and the missus are gonna gain weight. We were sitting at
home and the kids were in bed when she said "I could go for a chocolate
bar". My normal response is that we don't need chocolate bars and that I'm
too lazy to go to the store. Well, last night it was just starting to rain
a little when she said it. No sooner did she finish the sentence than I was
up and heading for my leather jacket and key to the bike.

I took the highway in this morning and found the bike easy to handle at the
higher speeds, and much less of a hassle than the stop and start traffic I
dealt with on the way home yesterday. We're expecting 50-70mm of rain
today, so we'll see how the bike feels about starting up after sitting in
the parking lot through all that water. A windshield is also in order, I'll
hopefully be ordering one up today.

Well, if you made it this far then grab yourself another round, I'll keep
the card on the bar for as long as I can to cover you folks on the west
Unfortunately just the opposite is happeneing, well, I shouldn't say
unfortunately, I need the space desperately. The Vespa I got for free one
night while out drinking with some acquantences. The guy I got it from just
and asked if I had done anything with it or put any money into it. I told
him it had just been sitting, so he asked if he could get it back. I had no
problem with it, since I knew I'd need the space anyway, and the plan was to
fix it up for my boy for when he turns 16, which is still 11 years away. If
I want an old Vespa to fix up I'm sure I'll have no problem getting one.
The guy that gave it to me is a good fella and I'm sure if I had put any
money into it he wouldn't have asked for it back, plus he had a few beers in
him when the offer was made. Anyway, that's one down. Also, as part of the
deal with the wife, I'm required to sell the Honda, so that will be two
down, leaving me with the two Triumphs, the Indian/Villiers, my old dirt
bike and the new Ural. I'm thinking I need to get the dirt bike running and
take it to my folks out in the counrty, which is where my brother is
currently storing his old IT175. Once all those are gone I should have room
to move around in there again.

coast, and Nancy.
Congrats on the new ride. Enjoy the experience of driving a rig. Watch
the right handers, as well as gas pumps. I've heard of more than one
person getting too close until they get used to having the car hanging
out there.
Yep, I've hit one curb so far on a right hand turn, just rubbed the tire a
little.
You'll get used to taking right hand turns a bit wider after hitting the
curb a little harder & with some speed. Dropping the wheel off the
pavement in a right hand turn can be exciting too.
As they say in UR neck of da woods "FUGGING AY!" Congrats. Now....how
Thanks, I'll give you all the dirt on it as the days go by.

much for da lil kid? Enjoy! and now ya gota change ur sig file.
rico
I still gots me the Triumph, just got to do a little tweaking on it to get
it on the road, although now I don't really have the space to work on it.
