FOAK: Who do I buy a cheap computer off that's not Dell?

Just had my expected delivery date put back by a month after waiting two
weeks for them to screw the thing together. Anyone know of anyone else
manufacturing fairly cheap, decent PCs and able to actually ship them out to

Seems to be about the norm at the moment. We've been waiting weeks for an
order which also keeps getting pushed back.
Maybe some component shortage.

I got my last desktop from ebuyer. It is a Celeron thing and was dirt cheap.
Recommended on here, I wanted a new pooter, so I bought one. I still
haven't transferred everything over to it yet.
computerbargains ( that may be bargain computers or similar ) or Morgan. If
it is business critical, IBM. In my experience, their support is equal that
of Sun and far and away better than Dell or Compaq/HP

Mesh. They keep winning awards in PCPro for both performance and
reliability. And you're not obliged to have an Intel processor.

Just one small problem there. They appear to supply Windows Vista systems
only.

Go for a Small Business system - you can specify XP then.

It's easy enough to reformat and install linux!

Mesh were good during the purchase and the RTB[1] warranty worked when
something went bang.

OTOH, my only experience with Mesh ended with them finally giving the full
refund on a repeatedly faulty box (which they knew was faulty but wouldn't
admit - "Oh, _that_ machine, ummm..." when phoned...) the day before the

Dell sent it out on Friday afternoon, somewhat ahead of their own schedule.
TBH I've gone with them because IME they test things well so the hardware
rarely conflicts with each other, whereas stuff like Tiny and Time was put
together out of whatever was cheap that week, and so works only in the
loosest sense of the word.
