Inflation, and the like.

So, I'm pondering something, and I don't know where to find the numbers
to work it out. What I want to do is establish how much money now would
give the equivalent buying power that 10K did in 2001.
I'm guessing there must be a quick and dirty online calculator for this
kind of thing... any ideas?

Office for National Statistics is your best bet, I would think.
Not an online calculator, but the data you'd need is here, especially
p7 (OK, so it only goes back to 2002, but you can't have
everything...):

If you go to table 3.1 on p.15 of this you will find cpi from Jan 1996
to May 2007. This and a calculator should give the answer to the ginger
ones question.
