OT: Help! Ferret alert.
|
Found a ferret wandering the streets, which isn't a normal thing in S
London. Managed to befriend it and it's now, stinking of its own urine, in
my bathroom.
|
ITYF all ferrets smell like that. Always.
|
I've seen a local girl walk her ferrets and presume it's hers (who elses?)
|
If that's a euphemism, got any pics?
|
I'm presuming ferrets aren't really creatures that go wandering the streets
by themselves at night. I may be wrong. Should I release it, or try and find
the owner? The ferret really was scuttling across a fairly busy road, and
could never be the age it is if it does that every night.

Try posting on alt ferret in the mean time give it plenty of water and
feed it kitten food , throw in an egg dont give it milk
yes the do stink but thats due to the oils in the coat and two little
sent glands around its tail not because they are dirty
They do bite if they have not been nip trained other than that they are
real social
try contacting your local animal shelters and vets , as most ferrets
are nuetured they may have a record of local owners

Thanks Steve, fortunately I have donned my Jim Carrey hat and done my Pet
Detective bit. Ferret now at home.

A few years ago we had a ferret stuck in a newly built raised flower bed
(before the earth and flowers were lobbed in).
We tracked down the owner by asking in the local shops and etc, and what
with ferrets being unusual pets, it didn't take long to find them
(especially with the "Lost - ferret" card in the Post Office window...)
Turns out the little thing was only about 200yds from home. He had been
stuck in there unnoticed for about 6 weeks and was lucky to be alive.

Hmm, just thinking about it ... there were a couple of drainage guys the
other day who smashed a window in the flats that I suspect it's from. They
turned on their high pressure hose and then stood scratching their heads, it
was 7pm and time for tea.
Found a shelter in Croydon that will take it, just don't have any transport
at the moment. Also got a mate who says they have a friend who has a ferret.
Although this thing looks evil, it's actually got a great temperament. Still
smells of wee though.
Also, "Things I never Thought I'd Do #1", bought cat food.

Suggest you do some door to door as I expect the owner will be quite
local
