SMALL dual sport?
|
Is it possible to get a very small lightweight dual
sport that will fit in back of cargo van?
Or is easily carried on back of van via a rack?
Thinking of doing the RV "thing"..... need a small and
light bike for around town when parked and camping

A pilot friend cut a Trail 90 in half and devised some clever system for
putting it back together again. He stuffed it into his Skymaster and it
carred him and his wife to wherever they needed to go for lunch when
they landed.

The new KLX250S would be nice, but is likely more than you want.
Just to bounce around town and campgrounds? An old KE100 or, if you're
feeling lucky, one of these 200cc Chinese dual sports. Personally, I'd
go with the KE, just because it sounds like that's all the bike you'd
need. I think the last year it was made was 2001.

KLR250 fits that bill although a 250 may be too small to
make you very happy on either the street or in de dirt.

Well I'm not a hard core rider..so maybe a 250 would be
ok
My main "objective" is something small enough and
compact enough to be "stowable"

I'm in the same boat: looking for a dual sport for the 5' tall gf. Sure,
the KLX250 would be ideal - if it wasn't so tall (and costly). You might
want to look at the TTR250. Street legal and may fit the bill in your
case.

You might keep an eye peeled for a Honda tlr200. They're rare, but
wonderful teachers. Tiny frame, a real if abbreviated seat, freeway
legal (!) and just about perfect for local (or not so local) errands.
The only drawback is that they're kickstart.

For transporting it consider a bike carrier (much like those for
bicycles) that attach onto your square hitch receiver. web-search bike
carrier and you'll see what I mean. Some can be had for just $160
