ot: paging Paul Corfield or other Walthamstownians
|
a) any OK pubs near Walthamstow Central station
|
The Goose and Granite is on the corner of Selbourne Rd and Hoe St but to
be honest pubs in Walthamstow are not that good. The only decent ones I
know are in the Village which is the opposite direction to the dog
track.
I think the review comments here
say it all!
Have a drink before you leave town!

I had family up there, IIRC all the pubs had Formica furniture and walls.
|
b) bus or taxi from the the station to the Dog track?
|
I assume you'll be arriving by train from Liverpool St? At Walthamstow
Central you'll go into a ticket hall and there are two exits. The left
hand ramp takes you to traffic lights to cross to the bus station. The
right hand exit takes you past the ticket windows and then up a ramp -
the pub is opposite and the taxis usually queue just by the top of this
ramp.
Go into the bus station opposite the tube / railway station and go to
stop D and take the 97, 215 or 357 and these stop directly opposite the
dog track (stop CS on the second map below). Early evening there are 13
buses and hour. Late evening it falls to 8 an hour.
You can also take the 34 but you need to get off just as it leaves the
Billet roundabout and then walk over the footbridge over the North Circ.
Stop "CP" on this map. 9 buses an hour early evening and 5 an hour late
evening.
The W11 will also get you to / from the dog track but goes a bit of a
long way round and I'm not sure you really wish to see the delights of
the Priory Court estate! 6 buses an hour early evening, 4 per hour late
evening.

I was born in Walthamstow, me. We moved away when I was 2 though, so I've no
idea about pubs, buses or taxis.
