OT: Need advice on Santana and Folk stuff....

I am currently on a quest to get a Santana album, any suggestions for my
first bite?
I've only got one, "Supernatural", which is quite enjoyable.

I wouldn't really call it "folk" mind. More "latin rock".
Oh yeah, I know that. The Folk bit was regarding the Out Of Town theme -
as it turns out, that's classical Spanish guitar ;-)

albums on iTunes store at the moment). Abraxus is top of the list at the
moment.
Can't go wrong with Abraxas, although 'Moonflower' is also a favourite
of mine. I have a wonderful compilation on my MP3 playerm, but I can't
find the original CD to check the title. I think the lad may have
misappropriated it. A very good mix of stuff, right back to Black Magic
Woman and as recent as Supernatural.
I'll check that one out, thanks.

Abraxas is certainly a good start, as is Santana III for the old/
original Santana as that band changed line-ups like they were going
out of fashion. The later you go in the 70s, the jazzier and weirder
they get - depends if you like it that way or not.

"Freedom" is pretty good for the 80s stuff, as is "Blues for
Salvador", which IMO is woefully underrated. Supernatural isn't bad
but I'd stick with the somewhat earlier stuff.
Yeah, I ended up getting Abraxas in the end. I can't believe it's taken
me this long to get a Santana album. It's not like I never heard of him
before.
My favourite is Caravanserai. Abraxas very good and also Borboletta.

A compilation is probably a good place to start though.

Later stuff with lots of 'guest singers' (Supernatural, Shaman) to my
mind a bit of a mixed bag.

IMHO you understand

I am steadily building up my collection of Folky type music, but I've
been after something that seems elusive. I love the theme tune to the
old Jack Hargreaves series 'Out of Town' (which is now out on DVD BTW),
but cannot find out what track it was, if it wasn't written specially as
a theme for the show. If it was, then that doesn't seem available
"Remember Jack Hargreaves sitting in his shed in his fly-fishing jacket,
talking about various countryside pursuits and trying not to be distracted?
The lovely theme music on the mandolin that ushered the show in is Francisco
Tarrega's Recuerdos De La Alhambra."
I think I have whathisface Williams[1] playing that on clissical guitar
somewhere on old cassette tape.

Phil.

Thats the badger. I remeber enjoying listening to it a lot.

[2] The band, not the satellite broadcaster

anywhere either.
You can't mean Max Bygraves shirley. A guitar instrumental is it?
Er, no, most definitely not Max Bygraves! (oh, the thought that I could
ever be into that). Anyway Platypus has kindly found the elusive track.

Any suggestions, sensible or otherwise?
Moonflower for me. Especially she's not there.
Have you got any Show of Hands?
That's the remixed version which isn't quite right. Anyone know if it
won the Radio 2 folk music competition?

"we've lost more than we'll ever know"

"without our stories and our songs how will we know where we come
from?"

One of my favourite songs.

Ah, proper country politics.

If burnt hasn't heard this one yet then he should give it a listen.

Good tunes and lyrics.
And fantastic live. Highly recommended, I imagine Mr Fisher will be
along to add his praises if he hasn't already.
Hmm, slight mis-snipping there, however, no I haven't, and they are
indeed rather good. Thanks for that pointer.
Moonflower - got a lot of good tunes on and is live

Abraxas has to be the best studio album
