track days?

As I mentioned in another thread as the years go by I seem to be
getting more and more into the twisty lifestyle. I actually am giving
some thought to maybe trying a track day. I have never been to one and
assume I should find one and go watch and see just what goes on before
actually signing up. Any pointers or info I should know before I look
into it?

Where would I go to find out more about track days in general, and
when and where they are having them in my area? I'm going to do a web
search, but I was thinking there may be some sources that others
already know of just in case I don't find much info. If it helps I
live in southern Illinois, not too far from St. Louis.
Not your neck of the woods but check out utahsba.com.

Bryan also
Roadracing World & Motorcycle Technology magazine maintains a national
list of motorycle track day organizations, tracks, schedules, and
contact information (websites and phone numbers). Probably a good
place to start. Their website is:

although I don't know if they maintain the list online or just in the
magazine itself.

I would certainly urge you to find and talk to people who have
previously participated in a track day put on by the same sponsor at
the same track that you think you might want to try. Feedback from
actual participants will help you decide how organized and how
educational (or not!) a particular sponsor might be.
