OT: iPod down
|
Number One Sun's 3rd Generation 40GB unit.
Two years old and the HD has died.
|
Buy a 40GB laptop drive on Ebay and fit it yourself?
|
They're not a laptop drive, they're 1.5", ISTR.
But, yes, not a bad plan.
|
Or a 1.8" like ebay item number 190018602437?
|
That's the one.
Well, it would be if it were a bigger capacity, anyway.
|
Also, it would help if it could be used in a 3G iPod, too.
But other than it being the wrong one and too small a capacity, you're
spot on ;-)
|
Thanks for the crumbs of consolation - I'll just hop back under my stone
|
It's not often Steve's actually right about something so he's making
the most of it ;-)

now.

You can't.
IIRC they're not only 'ickle drives, but have a fingerprint as well.
|
|
Out of warranty, and the chance of Apple replacing it is slim to none, I
suppose. Apple repair is £166. Independent repair is £150. Replacement
new iPod is £250.
Ebay it and run is maybe £150!
|
Get a shuffle, they are cheaper and don't break.
|
But you get loads of music off your drive you really don't want ... was my
brother's thoughts.
I'm not sure I agree in the short term, but in the long term an iPod doesn't
last. So, they're all rubbish.
I'm using my Sony Ericcson phone. It works fine, and copying 125 random
tracks from iTunes also works fine.... except I need to manage my music a
little better.

Go to Nigeria - they have lots of second hand hard drives.
