died at Dakar, He was running around 18th in his first attempt at the
event.

I never met him, but have friends that knew him. A class act.

Thanks for the post, Jim.

I've been tracking Dakar almost hourly keeping an eye on some folks
over there, and saw this news yesterday morning. It's a tragedy, for
sure, but there isn't one competitor there that doesn't fully
understand the danger this particular ralley poses. That doesn't
necessarily
make it any easier for the friends and families left behind, though.

Elmer was a very nice guy, and had been a regular at District 37 events
in Southern California.
