Another Mallory question

OK, less than 24 hrs to go before my first time on a track. Any advice
on the track - approaches to bends, suggested gears [1] etc.
If it's your first time on a track, there's really little point in
anyone giving you specific information on gears and lines.
Sorry, don't agree. The information on gears/corners you and (IIRC)
Gower gave me before I did my first track day helped hugely.

AS I've written many times before, the issue most people have their
first time on track is the lack of visual information compared to the
road. There's no white line down the middle, no hedges, no trees, etc
etc - all the things that usually tell us where the road goes.
Therefore it's quite easy to try and go too fast too soon, as there's
nothing saying "slow down".

So, take it easy, and *look* for the visual information that *is*
there. Mallory has quite a lot of tarmac patches and other stuff
which you can use for markers, but you have to actually make some
effort to get these in your head, rather than doing it naturally.
Thanks for that. As it's not a proper track day and we get only 2 half-
hour sessions I was just trying to get as much info as poss before
getting on track. I imagine we'll be going very steady for the first
half hour, hopefully I'll be able to go a bit quicker 2nd time out.

[1] The good news is that I will not be on my own bike and am
intending to thrash the life out of it [2].
[2] The bad news is that I'll be riding a Buell. Let's hope it doesn't
break down.
Mind the pot holes. Don't do this:
Why not? What happened next?
I went backwards instead of forwards.
But you looked cool doing it and that's what counts.
Looks like a high/lowside (depending on whether the rear finds grip
again) waiting to happen.
It worries me that you say it's your first time on a track yet you
intend to "thrash the life out of it" !

If it's a track day, change your attitude to one of "I will do as
instructed & taught" and I can guarantee you'll enjoy the day a lot
better & learn a whole lot more.

If it's not a track day and by some fluke you are allowed on the full
circuit without instruction, then leave the Buell in 3rd gear & aim to
beat your last lap time by technique alone. Cadwell as a circuit is a
lot less forgiving than Buell is a bike.
That's all very well, but what about Mallory, which is the track the
OP is going to?
