OT: HELP a SD card puzzle

I have a Medion GPS bought from ALDI and it works a treat.
It's an MD 95900.

It is SD card sensitive and some cards work in it others are just not
recognised by its operation system. ie the SD card does not come up as
"Storage Card" when you go to load it, be this through the units
operating system or when you use Active Sync from my PC.

This I can live with but:

I lent a 512 kb card that works on the GPS to my BiL for his camera when
he went on holiday. The camera formatted it to it's own standards.
When I got it back I reformatted and reloaded the card with the software
I took off. Now the GPS can't see the SD card.
How was it (re-)formatted, as in which filing system - FAT16 or FAT32?
It may be that the GPS can't see one or other of the FS's.
<...>
Only other simple thing to check that I can think of is: are all the
pins clean and undamaged? IIRC, SD cards can be accessed in either
serial or a sort of four-bit parallel mode. Possibly the GPS uses one
mode, which isn't working, and the other devices use the other mode,
which is?

Also, really 512*K*B?

The SD card works in all the other pieces of equipment I have but not
the GPS.

I've formatted the SD card in both FAT32 and FAT (the two standards
accepted by the GPS) on my PC but still no joy. The "Storage Card" file
does not come up on the list on the GPS looking at it with Active Sync
or as a file option on the GPS.

Now I know I can pop down the road and get a SD that will work and the
old one will not go to waste, but it bugs me that I can't solve this
problem.
Can you format it in the device itself?
The GPS can't see it. There is one option I haven't tried and that is to
do a hard reset with the SD card empty but in the GPS. Only I lose all
the data that I've stored in the GPS.

Any suggestions (about the SD card and GPS).
Format it in the GPS?
The GPS can't see it.
Good point
Did you do a Full format or just a Quick format?

If Quick, try Full.
Using a working SD card, do a full GPS backup, then swap the SD for the
duff one and do a full hard reset. Only thing I can think of if it's
not being seen when formatted elsewhere.
Did full.
