OT Convert VOB to avi

I have transferred an old 80s video recording of Tony Wilson
presenting "They Way They Were" onto a DVD. I now want to convert the
DVD to avi so I can put it on ukrm_nova.
Out of interest - how?
How as in how I transferred the video tape onto a DVD? Simply by
connecting a video machine to my DVD/HDD recorder and after editing
burning it onto a DVD.
Ah. I was rather hoping for a solution not involving the purchase of a
PVR. Can it be done straight to PC?
You'll need a TV capture device such as a Pinnacle Studio 500-USB. YOu
could probably pick one up from fleabay quite easily.
I think you'd have to have a TV card in the PC. Something that can
understand the RF signal on the co-ax.

These are getting pretty cheap, mind:
Ta.

All rather simple and reminiscent of the glory days of home taping but
with pictures.

My problem is then getting it onto ukrm nova. There is the question
is anyone interested in Granada TV's "What's On" footage from
1976/77/78 taken from a 1985 recording? The adverts were so great I
left them in.
Can't help you there.

Weapon of choice? Preferably free.
Have you got access to ukrm_nova then?
Everyone has, if they get the nod from Statto.
Thus far, everyone who has registered for the site has passed the NCA
criteria. Even Blaney.
Well, it appears that either I haven't or the email saying that I did never
turned up at my end...
I haven't registered yet, obviously.
"Never underestimate the bandwidth of a Fuglipla filled with DVDs"
...or a sidecar full of beer.
You're famously easy-going though.
So I've got a login that works without a confirmation mail?

Ah yes it works. Ta muchly.

I know my place.
You're also on the NCA list.
Works for me.
Does it need to be AVI? After all, it's just a container for the real
codec. Copy the VOB onto your PC, rename it as MPG or MP2 and as long as
someone has the MPEG-2 codec on their system, it'll play.

Otherwise, what type of AVI do you want?
