Taken up the arse
|
Trundling along for the last mile home when a kids football rolls in to
the road. The car in front stops, I stop but the car behind didn't or
rather did so by using me as a buffer. Turns out it was a teenage girl
and her sister who "were having an argument".
All was well until the father turns up, in a panic, and then, when he
realises that it was only a minor bump, starts shouting that there's no
evidence that it was their fault.
Given that there were no other witnesses, I'm starting to suspect that I
might have issues an admission of liability. Arse!
|
Talk to the man calmly, explain that a witness is not needed, the bumper
damage is enough.
Does he want to pay out of his own pocket ?
|
That has been suggested now that things have calmed down a bit. It took
a firm talking to and a bit of recognition on my part that he was likely
bursting with adrenalin on the news that his little girls had been in a
crash.
I'll get an estimate and give them a couple of days to come up with the
cash (assuming that the estimate doesn't make them go pale) before I
resort to insurance companies.
On the bright side it may give me the impetus to start looking for
another bike. I've been putting it off for too long.

Report it to your *now*. You don't have to start a claim, but you must
let them know that an accident has occurred.
|
What he said.
|
Thanks for the correction. That's what I meant.
|
|
I shall be calling Auntie Carol forthwith.
|
And if the third party start to give you *any* kind of trouble (or if
they try to 'negotiate' with you) then get Auntie Carole on them right
away. I'd be more than happy to let AC deal with it right from the
off as it's a non-fault accident and the father has already given you
trouble. The hike in the girlies insurance premium might make them
look where they're going instead of having argument in future.
AC will sort out collection of the vehicle, a proper assessment of the
vehicle to see what's bent, give you a hire vehicle and have your bike
returned to you when it's all finished.

One good reason to ALWAYS say you're injured. Do that and Plod MUST attend
the scene and Plod's a pretty good bloke to have on your side in these
circumstances.

Wasn't in Cardiff was it?
