New 2007 engine does deliver 50 miles per gallon

Drinks on me.

My new 2007 RoadKing just turned 5000 miles. 3200 miles of it just
finished a trip through New Mexico, Arizona, Utah (the best), Colorado
and Texas.

At no gas stop did I use more than 2/10 of a gallon more than my buddy
who was riding a 2004 RK. On trip legs that were out on the open road
(above 60mph), we both averaged 49.5 to 50.5 miles per gallon (and most
of it was that 90 octane stuff).

My early break-in mileage was disappointing. After 5000 miles, it's
now looking very, very good.
The cheapest thing about Harley ownership is the gasolene consumption.
hehehe only if you keep it under about 80
Makes me wonder what the bags are rated for.
Rated as in gas mileage?

I got the 2007 motorcycle book last Saturday ratings are listed as follows:

Touring - 32.5 city/ 45.0 hwy
V-Rod - 37.4 city / 47.7 hwy
Softail - 34.0 city / 53 hwy
Dyna - 34.0 city / 53 hwy
883 - 45.0 city / 59.7 hwy
1200 - 42.4 city / 57.1 hwy
heheheheh

So the benefit of the sixth gear seems to be wiped out by the additional
displacement of the 96 inch engine. What is the performance difference
between the 2 bikes?
I came off a 2001 Heritage Classic (Screaming Eagle package) to the
2007 Road King with Race Tuner and Dyno'd for max torque.

The 2007 definitely has more torque... power. Not a huge amount, but
def. noticeable. All the gears are different. Gears 1-4 have a longer
range... at least 5mph "longer" than the standard 5-gear. Fifth gear
is a problem for me. Noisy. Short range. Sixth gear is a dream. The
engine sounds like a quiet 45mph putt until you look down at the speedo
and see you are going 75mph!

I am still getting used to the new gear patterns after many years on a
FLSTCI
I have an '05 Road King with a 95" kit, 203 cams, V&H slip-on mufflers,
a PCIII, and a good dyno tune. The bike runs great but I don't get
near that kind of mileage. If I ride really easy (under 65 indicated),
I can get 40-41mpg. Maybe I could get 50 coasting down a mountain pass
Which dp and I wouldn't let you do.
I do believe we gave him a good show and tell :)
Him, and those posers we screamed past (twice)

but on the flat, no way. I'm envious.
I've got a '05 Ultra and it gets a tad over 48 on the highway doing 70 mph
with no problem. It's got the big bore, redshift 557s, ported se heads,
cometic .030 head gaskets smoothed stock throttle body, v&h true duals, wp
mufflers. It hauls ass too. When it was stock it got a very lousy 28 to 32
mpg all the way to SD, it sucked big time. The single most important part
I've installed to improve my mileage and performance has been the pc wideband
commander. Get to see where my a/f mixture is at all times while riding.
Stuck the gauge right where that stinkin' air temp gauge used to be.
But how do you know what the vital inner faring temperature is now?
I'm not sure I could ride without knowing the temperature inside my
fairing is a constant 100F.

Makes me nervous to think about it.

"Oh bother" said Pooh, as he was connected at 14.4kps

A: Because it disturbs the logical flow of the message.
Q: Why is topposting frowned upon?

BTW, pretty much stock 05 FLHT and I get lower 40s on the flat highways
70 MPH. Cobra slip-ons and a K&N breather element.

I noticed that you failed to mention that you went through two cases of oil.
Any Hardley will go through two cases of oil during a trip of that distance.
