OT: Broadband update!
|
Broadband is back, after 2 weeks and 2 days, it's back.
Broadband has been ranging from very slow to none for over 2 weeks, however
web-search always worked on any search, and email was fine, but HTTP was very
bad. India kept telling me the line was testing fine, closing the ticket
twice. I'd given up and was going to resume on Monday when....
This morning there was no broadband at all, the light was out on the home
hub, so I checked the phone line, and no dial tone either. At this point SO
gets involved, as she can't be without the phone, and she was well on the
way through to india when we spy a BT van outside...
My son pops out to ask him if what he's doing has cut our line, and yes it
has. A little while later I wandered across to see what he was up to and was
greeted with:
'Broadband doesn't like water'...
So, it's all done, now getting 6 mbit connection, which seems to be fine.
What a joy!

Chap I shared a flat with one week in Geneva last month may have
solved a little broadband mystery I had. I asked Wanadoo to upgrade me to
4 Mb/s and Orange (for they had taken over in the interim) eventually sent
me an e-mail, "Unfortunately we were unable to perform the requested
upgrade." Which puzzled me as I'd started connecting at 4 Mb/s a few weeks
earlier...
But, I have my own modem/router/WiFi unit now. RAL bod speculated
that Orange had been trying to download updated firmware to my original
"Frog" USB modem and naturally failed as it's been in its box for two (or
is it three?) years...

Until the next time.
