Well done, Danny Imberg.
|
For most of this past summer Tori and I have been spannering and pit-
boarding for my mate Danny Imberg who races an '04 model ZX-10R in the
MRO/Bemsee Powerbike class. Today was the last race of the season, at
Lydden Hill.
Danny has ended the season 2nd place in the championship standings,
which is pretty respectable considering his bike is virtually bog
standard in the engine department. He's been up against K5 Gixer Thous
and '05 R1s putting out upwards of 15bhp more and he's running a very
tight budget as far as tyres and suchlike goes. The bike has been 100%
reliable and Danny has had the good grace to stay upright all season, so
my work has been limited to basic nut and bolt checks, swopping wheels
for tyre changes, gearing changes, minor suspension adjustments and
fitting new brake pads etc. Nice and simple and so very satisfying when
you see the bike you work on doing so well out on track.
It's been a cracking experience for me and Tori when we've been there
helping out, and we've volunteered to do the same again next season, no
matter what class or championship he races in.

Boxer challenge...
|
I have a feeling that ended about 2 years ago. Danny's not averse to
riding obscure bikes, he cut his racing teeth on a CB350K4 in classic
classes and raced an early '90s Speed Triple quite successfully for a
couple of years. He wouldn't even consider racing a BMW though, which is
one of the reasons I like him.
