Hey Jim -
I doubt I have an issue with the PV cover of my 125 (although with
everything I've found so far, nothing would suprise me). Since I
can't take it off at this point, however, is it possible to tell
whether it is upsidedown from the outside?
When the cover is on the wrong way, what is the effect? Does it
inhibit the opening of the valve such that top end suffers, or the
other way around?
Thanks - JayC

I'm sorry Jay. It's been too long since I opened a GG 125 and
fiddled with the powervalve. I don't know which way is up (on the pv
cover).
Upside down, it inhibits the opening of the powervalve such that top
end suffers. It does this by the bolt (which goes through the cover
and has the lock nut on it) contacting the powervalve assembly when
the cover is "upside down".
Can't you get at it to see, by simply pulling the exhaust pipe?

I can see it all-right, but I don't see how orientation makes any
difference. The PV cover appears to simply be a piece of rectanular
flat stock, with a small fastener on each of the 4 corners. The
fasteners look like rivets, through I would guess that they are
rounded-cap hex bolts w/ a teeny wrench size that only the euros would
use.
I just found this picture that appears to answer my questions.
Evidently there is a 5th fastener in the middle of the cover (although
it doesn't seem to connect to anything). This fasterner is directly
behind the fattest part of the obstructing frame, so I'm not surprised
I didn't see it before. According to the picture, it looks like it
should be more toward the top.

Yes. That is the bolt to which I was referring. "the 5th fastener"
It's only purpose is to potentially block in the powervalve.

I wish that I was more help for you with this. I just haven't
wrenched on a GG 125 in almost two years, and that was mostly the
clutch.

Don't worry about it - no biggie. Besides, it's the memory that goes
first anyway. Hell, at your age you should feel good about remembing
to put on pants in the morning, much less remember what the innards of
a 125 look like.
