Has anyone here shipped a bike - USA - UK??

Hi everyone,

Looking for some hands-on advice about shipping a MX bike from USA to
UK.
Take this with a grain of salt as I've never shipped a bike.....

Davies-Turner is a UK freight forwarding agent. If you contact
them they can shephard you through the process of ocean
freighting your bike. I would not tell them it is a bike and
instead would tell them it's machined parts or even motorcycle
parts. If you have a crate, or get one from the local US dealer
and use it for the basics of your crate. You should be able
to deliver it to one of D-T's partner sites in the US. It'll
take 3-ish weeks to get the crate to the UK. via ocean.
D-T will also do air but I have no clue the cost. For
ocean, about 800 lbs costs me about $0.80 per pound.

I hope this helps a little.

Go fast. Take chances.

I once read a story about an ex 125 GP racer (Rodney Fee) who
disassembled his bike and took it on a flight as luggage. Probably not
so easy today, but I guess you could disassemble it, box it up and ship
it with a regular carrier (UPS, etc.).
"Machine Parts" are cheaper to ship than a disassembled motorcycle.
My buddy Tom Myers of CycoActive used to do that with a KDX200 flying
back and forth to Hawaii. He carried the motor in a shoulder bag as
carry-on luggage, the rest got boxed up in sub-70 pound boxes and
checked as regular luggage.
You're probably right, though, I'll bet it wouldn't be as easy now.

There used to be a guy named Mike Mondo that rode a 125 GP bike in the
AFM. He used to dismantle it and carry it on airplanes, too. Something
to be said for riding a small super-light bike, I guess.

Also looking for general help regarding moving from USA to UK.

Thanks !
You moving across the pond, Sean?
He's already been there for months...
