Heavy guys' spring rates

Is anyone on rmd in the 240 pounds region?
If I stay at it I will be.

If you're riding a linkage suspended bike
what rate are you running?
See what Jay wrote.

I plan on changing the 4.5 stocker of my WR450 to they
stiffest one the offer, something like 5.5 and want to make
Some info:

Race Tech says that the stocker is a 5.3 kg/mm, which (they say)
corresponds to an ideal rate for a 180 pounder.
Hmm, page 7-19 of the WR450F owner's manual lists spring rates
from 4.3 til 5.7, claiming that

5.2 were the stock rate

5.3 were stock for Austrailia, NewZealand and S-Afirca
(apparently compensating for southern hemisphere?)

and 4.9 would be the stock pring rate for us soft and gentle Europeans.

Furthermore they list a whole bunch of unequal pitch springs for both,
front and rear. While i can picture a fork spring to be unequal pitch,
e.g. to have some section, where the windings are already close together,
makeing them pack at a certain forkt travel, i must admitt to never have
seen an unequal pitch mono shock rear spring.

Anyone got experience with going unequal at the rear ?

They recommend a 5.8 kg/mm for your fat ass. Stiffest available from
them is a 6.4.
Cool link, thx.

FWIW: I used their data and recommendations when I was setting up my
XR4 back in the day and they were spot on.
I just wonder what 0.50 front and 5.8 at the rear will mean for the
damper(sp?) , estimating that i'll have to go quite a couple of clicks
harder on rebound. Will it run much hotter?
You will theoretically have to crank in a bit more rebound damping -
probably only a couple of clicks though. I wouldn't worry about that
part - you'll only have to dial in ~10% more damping, and there's
always plenty of adjustment range.

sure if that is sane and if someone can testify to the
aptness of such idea before i shell out the 150 bucks
(genuine 5.5 would be + $200)
Don't just make half the bike work. Hit it at both ends so the part you fix
isn't trying to make up for a deficit at the other end too.

Check the Race Tech Web site. They've got a spring rate calculator on
there.

Not sure if it works for communists though.
(smirky thing)
