FOAK: Luminous bird?

I was just outside having a cigarette and looked up at the sky, as is my
wont when I saw a moving light. At first I though it was an aircraft, but
it was crossing the sky far too quickly for that unless it was very low
and there was no noise. Also it wasn't moving straight: slightly erratic,
like a bird in flight. Just a single, white light.
So what on Earth was it? Is somebody tagging birds with luminous collars
or something?

Hm, never heard of that. I haven't seen any barn owls round here.
There are some in the surrounding countryside but I would have thought I
was too far from the edge of town. However, it's not *very* far and there
is an area of scrubby wasteland not far away, which could be a good
hunting ground for owls.

No: moving far too fast in relatively still air and a steady light, not
flashing. White, maybe with a yellowish tinge.
I'm pretty sure it was a flying animal; a bird rather than a bat from the
way it was moving, but I'm not certain.
