Mid-Ohio

Who said heat races were a thing of the past?
Most likely on points, I'd guess, but possible they will have qualifying
for the heats.
Yeah, they aren't going to have a top guy lose the championship because
of a heat race crash or mechanical. Unless he gets hurt, of course. But
the fast guys should have no problem getting out of the heats otherwise.
My guess is the normal points.
Yeah, I'm thinking B-Boz and Hodgy are all over that idea...

What's good here is that it's a unique format, but apparently does
nothing of significance to distort the championship. That was everyone's
fear, I think, and that seems unlikely now. As Barrick says here,
"Getting the opportunity to watch three heat races and the excitement
of a last chance race will also give the series a whole new twist
without compromising the integrity of our championship and points
system. And the winner of the consolation race will get a big boost in
recognition over what a 21st-place finish would normally provide, which
is another big bonus." Looks like only one feature race, though, instead
of the usual doubleheader. But if Mid-Ohio wants something different,
they certainly could have done worse...
