Restrictors?

WSB going NASCAR I see...
The state of SB racing organisation makes me despair. You've got 3 major
championships (WSB, BSB, AMA) and three minor championships (JSB,
Australian, German). They've had 18 months to see this coming and the
need for a new set of rules. They all get together for a couple of big
pow-wows. Each championship has a series of negotiations with all the
manufacturers and major teams often with the same people. There are lots
of people calling for a common set of rules that they can all get
behind. And yet the next set of rules are going to be different in every
championship. I guess the vested interests won out.
The real problem is a lack of leadership at the top, once again WSB
drags their feet to something of a a head-scratching outcome. Or is it
that BSB jumped the gun and now discover they're out of step with
"daddy"? [I note that it's only BSB that has changed the rules for
1000-4s] No matter, the moment WSB decided to go with a spec tire from
Italy they gave up any position of leadership they had in the class, and
it's not a class that requires uniformity anyway, particularly as the
rules restrict modification more and more and reject race specials. So
I'm not certain what "vested interests" won out here. Well, other than
the Japanese factories in the AMA, who's insistence on consistent SB
rules has apparently stopped the AMA from modifying them to allow in
Ducati's current flagship machine next year. Something that probably has
no practical effect anyway...
