Paging the hi-fi-isti
The Doctor wants to get rid of the large speakers attached to our
gramophone. She wants mini-speakers because these take up so much space.
Mmm,"gramophone" is it, queue sketch from Not The Nine O'clock News.
Big things made by Leak: about two feet tall and a foot across.
Date from late 1970s. Rather good sound quality.
Worth anything or is it a Freecycle job?
Worth a punt on Fleabay, I reckon. My Quad amp *alone* seems to be going for
a couple of hundred notes. Leak was good kit: we had a Delta 30 amp, which
was superb.
My Michi pre/power is possibly the only thing I own which is worth more
now than when I bought it (other than the house, that is)
Leak, great speakers, ebay 'em, they used to be made in the Wharfedale
factory not a couple of hundred yards from me!!
IIRC Leak are a bit classis, but that's about as much as I know.
I'm still using my Delta 30. Bought new in 197(mumble). Works fine.
And my speakers are Leak Sandwich 250s.
If I was going to buy an old pair of speakers on ebay, it would be these:-
My dad used to have some of those, only the even sillier priced ones.
They're actually not all that.
But you can't mention that in polite society, or people go bananas for
some reason.
Interesting. I don't think I've actually ever heard one, and they are
pretty ugly.
I'd have thought eBay would be worth a try, lots of Leak/Thorens-era stuff on
there for the vinyl crusties
Cheers.
Found an identical looking pair there. That makes them 2020s.
Looks like they're worth £30-50.
