Recharging Rear Shocks

My back end has gradually become very wobbly and off putting (fnarr), and I
have an idea the piggyback shocks may need their nitrogen reservoirs
recharging.

The correct pressures are stated on the side of the reservoirs, but are
these values likely to be with the shocks in situ, or on the bench?
"Unloaded", so either on the bench or centrestand.
Many thanks for that.

Have you checked the other obvious offenders for wobbly back ends,
including:
- wheel bearings?
- swingarm bearing?
- shock mounts?
- tyre damage?

or the less obvious, steering head bearings. Yes, I *know* these are at the
front but the effect of damaged steering head bearings often *feels* like
it's the back going adrift.
It passeed it's MOT last month with only 1 advisory, which was the rear
wheel bearing being very slightly worn. I don't think this is the cause as
the amount of wear was barely discernible (a job for the winter months, my
mechanic said).

Of course, there's always that last and most common cause - the pillion that
keeps moving around to window shop or give the bird to passing cages...
Don't take pillions very often, although last time it was fully loaded with
camping gear it did develop a very worrying speed wobble.
