Maybe I should get a hack
|
A broken leg is no fun. Worse yet, I tore ligaments and they're
still healing. I haven't ridden since April. :(
A hack would at least get me on three wheels. They can't lean, but I
might deal with that.
|
Who says they can't lean?
|
But that's a unicycle with two spares, not a trike.
|
|
Let me rephrase that "I'm not ready to make it lean." And if I were
pedantic, I'd say that's flying the sidecar, not leaning. ;)
|
This..... is flying the chair :)
BTW, as bad as that previous shot looked, they came out of it ok, even
if Heather was in a rather un-lady like pose.

Where does one find one? I've checked the IBMWR list as well as Craig's
list and there's not much there. I did see a Royal Enfield, but near as
I can tell it only has 22 hp. I'm not sure that could keep up with
wife's GZ250.
There's also classifieds at Sidecar.com, but nothing close to home.
|
Should probably mention that "close to home" ie near Chicago, just in
case anyone in the area has a hack they want to sell to a caring
careful rider. :D

You interested in a 1984 Goldwing with a California Friendship II
sidecar? Only 13,500 miles and fresh. I bought it in May with 9500
|
Those are excellent sidecars, at least from a braking standpoint. Do you
have the optional brake, which is connected to the motorcycle's front
brake?
I had a Friendship II for 15 years and loved it. Go 60 mph down a
straight road, grab a whole handful of front brake and come to a stop in
a straight line, without having to steer.
|
Nope, no hack brake, but this one acts like it does. I hadda panic
stop it and it was no big deal. I have the cockpit cover, the top and
the side curtains too. It also has the original Aspencade bike cover
in gold to match. The PO had a Utopia backrest recovered in the dark
brown to match the seat. It's a gorgeous bike/hack combo and
comfortable as all getout. I easily can do 800 mile days on it. The
only drawback is the 30 mpg fuel economy.
|
Just sold it last September due to waned spousal interest.
|
I got this one with the intention of having the wife ride along. So
much for that idea. Guess I'll be a solo ride for the rest of my
biking career.
|
|
Declining interest in your spouse is no excuse to stop riding! Quite
the opposite!
|
Oh my. I think I should have chosen better words.

miles and rode it to Americade and back. It's a great ride, but I'm
finding sidecars to not be what I'm looking to ride. Pics are at
The bike is clean, except for some scratches on the right saddlebag
lid where the PO let is slide down the road when he forgot to latch
it. Everything works and the kids love the sidecar.
|
Looks liuke a great rig, but bigger than I think I would want.
|
I paid $7500 and have a new set of Elite II tires here to be put on.
Gimme what I paid for it and it's yours. I'll even ride it out to
you. I think you'll recognize me from the NART ride and South
Bend. hehe I'm in eastern Michigan, near Detroit.
winger81@snotmail.com Make the snot hot. ;)
Watch them train steps from now on, eh?

|
I'd be partial to a BMW. An Airhead with sidecar would be way cool. :)
|
I totally agree. Here's mine with me in the chair.
|
That's way cool, but a bit more extreme that I'm looking for. But who
knows.
And to answer Jim's coment about riding a hack vs. a bike. I'd expect
it to be different from a couple of standpoints. Lots of weight out to
one side. That would cause it to pull when braking. And you steer
rather than counter steer. And cornering is different depending on
whether you stay on three or two wheels (or one as in that picture.
=8-O ) It would definitely be a new skill to learn.
|
|
|
Ahh, have you ridden a sidecar rig ever? Not as simple as it looks.
|
I have one, they aren't much fun on twisty roads, so it sits detached and
dejected.
Look on yahoo groups, there is one called sidcartalk2 or something like that
was is pretty active when i last looked a year or two ago. Maybe you can get
a ride before you spend the money.

Sorry to hear of the broken leg, hope it and ligs heal good
and proper.
|
Thanks, it is getting better. Put 33 miles on the bicycle today. Would
|
They are different from anything else, but it doesn't take long to get
used to.
This picture was taken on the first lap my new driver ever did on a
hack. He had never been on any hack before, but he's catching on
pretty quick. The next weekend we came in 3rd out of 12.

have been 27 except that I realized I left my fanny pack with wallet
and cellphone 3 miles back. :( It was still there when I went back for

How much beamer jug was left after that one?

it. :)
|
How about this type boxer? :-)
|
I could definitely see myself tootling around on someting like that. I
just can't see myself buying one new an haven't succeeded in finding
one used. (One that drives the sidecar wheel seems like it would be
even better.)
