A Ride to the Rocky Mountains

Last Saturday presented the first opportunity of the season to enjoy a
ride to the Rockies.

Here are a few pictures and a short narrative of the day.
I am getting t****ed off missing out on so many good rides
(especially when there's BBQ'd beef involved).
Nice.

Heh, we had to get nearly all the way to the end of the page before
there was a picture with the triptrunk lid *closed*! ;-)

Although I was a little road weary by the time I got home it was a
great day and a terrific ride.
Don't you ever get sick of all that picture-postcard scenery? Geez,
a guy could get burned out looking at all that beauty. :^)
Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of spending some time
riding in Maine. Once in October, pretty much at the peak of the fall
colours. One evening I asked my hosts if they ever took for granted
the beauty of their corner of the world. Barry didn't hesitate for a
second before he answered "Never"

The Prairies aside I can't think of an area I have ridden where I have
not been impressed with sights, sounds and scents to be experienced on
two wheels. For the total experience, there is just no other way to
travel.

This year I will add two more spectacular areas to my list of
favorites, LaCrosse and Moab.

But yeah, after tasting them all, I am a little partial to the Rockies
Arcadia is intense, but there's something about the Canadian
Rockies ( or Northern Rockies, at least ) - the colder weather has led
to much less aging over the eons, I think ...... very raw, very .... I
dunno .... 'different' ????
Well sometime over the next few weeks I am going for a ride to the
Columbia Ice Fields. I can tell ya, winter or summer it is very stark
up there.

At the end of the month there is a whole whack of Alberta riders
heading through the interior of BC to a big meet in Osoyoos. If we all
decide to take the south route it will take us along the finest
twisties the Rockies have to offer.

Later this summer the Going to the Sun Road in Montana is in the
cards.

Add LaCrosse Wisconsin in July and Moab Utah in Sept. and this will be
a very busy summer. :-)

This one is my favorite:
Banff will burn itself in your mind, the first time you see
it. Mine was ~ 40 years ago.
Nice, VERY nice. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a place I ought to
visit. When is the absolute least cold time of your year? Late July?
Mid-August?
Well we usually get a warm week or two in early August, but the
precise dates can be a moving target ;-)

Yeah anytime in June July August or September will bring decent
weather, but late July to Mid August is about the best.

If you do plan to make it out here, let me know the dates. I'll book
some time off work and show you a little of my corner of the world.

You might have noticed I am a just a little bit proud of it.

Better yet join us for this little get together:

We have a couple of Harleys riding out with us. A couple of days in
Radium and then I'll take you on a ride along the Promenade Des
Glaciers through the Columbia Ice Fields up to Jasper.

It's a ride you'll never forget.
Looks like it !
Good one, 'bout time you Canucks could go for a ride. Why weren't you
watching hockey?
