lock advice
|
here's my situation: I have a carport (basically a covered parking
spot, not secured) with an adjacent 6" support post. I was thinking of
securing my motorcycle with a double looped 6 foot, 15mm diameter
cable and a U-shaped disc lock.
Basically, I want to prevent/resist thieves from picking up the bike
(Ninja 250, only 350 lb wet) and throwing it in a pickup truck. I want
to loop the cable around the support pole, then lock the other other
end to the bike frame with the mini U-lock. (I figure that if I lock
the U-lock to the front disc brake, they could just remove the front
wheel). This would give me about a 5 foot range fron the support pole.
Any holes in my thinking?

If you are allowed to make modifications to the parking surface, and maybe
want a little more freedom of placement (park next to a pole and if it gets
bumped - there's goes your tank), KRYPTONITE makes a "limpet" that attaches
to the floor with an anchor that you can loop a cable, chain or lock
through.

Just a suggestion.
The cover idea is golden.

Get a cover with a picture of a broken down old tractor with
no engine and a missing wheel on the outside :-)

Add a bike cover to the equation. Cheap and it keeps people from knowing
exactly what is under there make and model-wise.

right, I was going to do that, forgot to mention it.

Just wanted to comment... the bike cover is genuis... simple and way
more effective than the cost of the cover. What folks can't see
readily decreases the chance of theft dramatically. Good call, Joe.

The bike cover as a theft deterrent works especially well if the word
"Honda" is prominently emblazoned thereon. :-D
