Crash bars???

Paladin, Cobra, several others... 3 claim to fit my bike (05 Honda
Shadow 750), but fasten in dif ways. They vary in price from $119-299.
Most folks seem to like 'em for the hiway pegs you can mount and the
look they add to a bike.

What are yuo experiences with the dif brands? Do they fit the bikes
they say they do? Is one really any better than another?

A while back I was watching the TV show "Superbikes". Some guys were doing
stunts. They were pretty amazing. They did all kinds of things with the
bikes. Then they showed them practicing and they were dropping the bikes all
the time whenever they lost control during a trick. One guy had a "bike",
and I use the term loosely because his bike only had a rear tire and no
front one. He did wheelies and stood on the back bumper doing circles on the
one wheel. It was pretty cool.

But at one point the host mentioned something about some kind of add on to
the bike that kept them from getting messed up whenever they dropped their
bikes, and they dropped them a lot. They went skidding along the ground a
Yes - it's called a cage (really)..

Put one on your bike, and you'll be known as a stunta, and the next
thing you know, gluing fur on your bike will start to sound like a good
idea. It's a slippery slope.

bunch. But the guy said those bars prevented the bikes from getting hurt at
all. I didn't hear or don't remember what they were but they were hardly
"Hurt at all" is misleading. Enough side impact on the frame, engine
mounts and engine _will_ eventually cause damage.

noticable. I would like to find out what they were and how to get them for
my bike. I too know about dropping bikes when you're not trying to do it on
purpose. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
I think that this is what you are looking for.
You need to be careful that the selection you make doesn't contact the
ground before your floorboards or footpegs. If you're cornering hard in
the twisties and the lower portion of the bars or their mounts contact
the road surface, you could be in deep do-do.
Nothing very awful happens if you ground the bars. You may need to
lean off the bike into the corner a little more, but it's definitely
not an
instant loss of control.
No one said it was. It's OK with me if you want to drag yours,
however I would prefer not to take the chance and will continue
to call attention to it to others who are seeking advice.s

Caveat Emptor

The Paladin bars were my choice due to the above. I'm always dragging
the spring loaded floorboards on my VTX retro and certainly don't want
to be taken down by solid crash bars in contact with the road surface.

Check out the photos in the ads and you can see what I'm talking about.
Ok, thanks for the info!

Yes, they work. In my Harley crash I saw ha Harley, whilst I was flying
through the air, sliding away from me with sparks flying. The only damage to
the bike was to the "crash" bars.
The dealers don't like to call them "crash" bars, though. They're called
engine protectors.

Now, I have a K1200GT. It scares me as it is all plastic fairing. no frame
sliders or crash bars. I can't even drop this thing without causing
considerable damage.
