S&S Gear Drive question (TC88)
|
Cards on the table, help yourself to a cold one.
I've been playing with the idea of changing the cams out with the S&S gear drive
set up. Me and my nephews bikes have over 30k now, so I was getting all the parts
together to change out those dam cam chain shoes... but hell, might as well switch
right? My question is; do I need to change out the inner cam bearings, assuming they
are still in good shape? If I can avoid buying the inner cam bearing remover tool, and
installer, that would save me 200 bucks that could be spent on beer and hot dogs
after the job.

Well uh, IMHO, if indeed you do want to do it all right, like you said,
why skimp, or disregard what S&S says you might have to do?
|
The S&S supplied needle bearings have free-range rollers as opposed to the factory's caged rollers.
|
And just think!
You can always rent yer tools out for beer and hot dog money later on! :)

Look at it this way; The new cams come that way for a reason. Are you
going to replace wheel bearings with 30K on them with "new wheel
bearings and NOT replace the the races?" Think about it for as long as
it takes to drink a cup of coffee!
