Scott Genius Boot
|
This is a pretty wild looking boot.
Has anyone seen one up close yet? At Indy maybe?
I think it looks really cool.
|
I wear those when cutting the grass, nothing special!
|
on which planet? hehehe, looks like something designed for a movie set.
|
That's why I only wear mine in the bedroom.

Wasn't it Scott who produced the original hardshell MX boot back in
the mid-'80s? They were blue, as I recall. Can't seem to find a photo
on the web though :-(
Personally, I don't like a lot of boots because of the thick
plastic, especially in the shift toe area, 'cuz I like the "feel" of
the shifter. No doubt they're more protective, but if they cause you
to miss that downshift on the gnarly uphill section you may have more
to worry about than shift toe protection. I mean, a modern suit of

Not sure what kind of bike you ride, Fred, but all of mine require using
the sole of the boot for a downshift. :)

I've still got an RD250 that you use the sole to upshift. Yes,
I was young and impressionable.
Go fast. Take chances.

Guess I shoulda thought that analogy through a little more. ;->

You'll live. At least this thread wasn't about oxy/acetylene welding! ;)

Yeah, and I didn't try to get defensive with a technicality by
explaining that some bikes, back in the day, had unusual shift
patterns where low was up. ;-p

Don't push it, or you'll be back to Frank in a heartbeat. ;^)

synthetic armor would be more protective too, but at some point you're
trading freedom of movement for protection and potentially offsetting
any gain the latter might promise. You really need to "feel" some
stuff, or else we might all be riding in space suits with articulated
hinges at the joints.
That said, the new Scott boots do look pretty wild.

I read the ad for the new Scott boots and they have a soft area so
that you can feel the shifter. I wouldn't mind trying a pair on and
seeing how they feel.
