Bling my tools up

Any recommendations where I can get a hex bit so I can get the front
wheel out of the Zed?

I think it's 14mm
Ask someone who's got several of them in his toolbox to post one to
you, assuming either he or his wife know your address (1). Of course
you might have to wait until the weekend until someone who's got one
gets home from Norfolk. You might find it beneficial to send someone
who's got one an email to remind them in case they're a bit thick and
forget.

Are you sure it's 14mm and am I reading this right that you want an
Allen key type hex bit? 14mm hex is normally found on an M16 thread
and that sounds a bit small.

Inexpensive, natch.
The ones I can find are the 14mm drain plug key (2.95) and 14mm hex key
socket 3/4" drive (14.46)

I'd already been there, but for some reason didn't spot them.
Get an old 3/8 drive plug socket with the hex head as well and hack the
end off, use that. It's what I have in my toolkit for the same purpose.
Are you suggesting I buy a 14mm Allen key and cut the end off and use it
in a socket? Or have I completely misunderstood?
I had this issue with the 9R front end on the B12. I went to my local
hardware shop with a vernier calliper and bought a cheap box spanner
with the right *outside* dimension. £4 to you sir. Works a treat.
This is a box spanner...

Ooh, yes. To be honest I would have no idea what that would be called
on this side of the pond. Looks vaguely like a spark plug socket from
a motorcycle tool kit.
They're very popular the other side of La Manche, for some bizarre reason.

I thought a box spanner was a box-end wrench:

day, and forget something old.
I thankewe!
I know you've got this particular requirement sorted but for future
reference, I found Bell Tools in Southgate St., Gloucester very good for
odd sized hex keys/bits.
You can get big hex sockets in Halfords, but you have to hunt for them -
they're usually billed as being for drain bolt removal or something like
that. Cost about three quid or so.
Free.

I got one from Halfords, but if they're not playing game, there's a
I can see a trip to my local budget motor factor coming on.
