Media blasting rotors?

RMT after 2 weeks>

I have some otherwise very nice rotors for my KZP that have a little scale
build-up that I'd like to clean up. Are there any gotchas to watch out for
when doing this? I'd also be interested in understanding which media
represents the "best practice" for this operation.
Dunno about best practice but I've always had good luck with simply
raising the wheel off the ground and spinning it by hand while squeezing
a folded sheet of coarse sandpaper over the disk surface. Not very high
tech, but it's worked fine and gotten rid of pulsing disk effects from
mucked up disks on more than one bike.
Thanks.. these are already off the bike and the easiest thing would be a
media blast, since someone else will be doing that. Just didn't want to
miss the opportunity to learn something here if there was indeed something
to learn.
Depends on how tough the scale is. Crushed walnut shells can remove most
kinds of dirt & corrosion without harming the metal. If what you're trying
to remove is tougher than that, you'll have to move up in the abrasiveness
of the media. Best bet is to start off with something harmless like walnut
shells & move up only as needed -- too much abrasion would not be good. Make
sure the blasting is done *smoothly* -- you don't want to create low spots
