Need advice re old tyres
|
I'm picking up a sportsbike from a dealer tomorrow that's been sat in an
indoor private collection for six years, is barely run in, and still has
the original tyres. The dealer reckons they're going to be ok, but I'm
concerned they might have hardened and loose traction easier.
I fully intend to put new tyres on it soon anyway, but I need it as it
is for the weekend and may not be able to get a set fitted before I head
off to the GP on Saturday.
I've done a bit of searching the web and find advice going from chuck em after
three years, all the way to never use one older than ten, but most think
6 or 7's the limit.
But I wonder; what's the consensus from the folks who actually do the
riding. Any thoughts?
|
Personally, I'd ride easy to the GP and back[1], then get them changed
asap on return.
|
If it were me I'd opt for new rubber.
|
[1] I'm assuming you would do this anyway on a bike that's new to you.
|
Too right!! I'm meeting some friends and riding over with them, but I'm
perfectly happy to let them run off ahead playing heroes while I coast
along.
Thanks for the advice.
