[OT] I Rock.
|
Went to Newquay last week with SWMBO, her son (James, 24) & his mate
(Matt, 23). Activities (other than surfing) included:
1) Karting. 70mph pro-karts on a very wet outdoor circuit. There were
|
Is this the place at St Eval? Coz I'm just not convinced that they're
|
That's the one. Certainly nowhere near 70mph on that circuit, but
possibly on a long straight?
|
I've been on the full circuit both times I've been there and it's still
not enough. The main straight has that small uphill first, coming out of
a tight corner, so you lose momentum and need to draft anyone that's quick
to get by them before the hairpin. I'd put it at 40, maybe 50... but it's
difficult to tell.

that fast.

ten people in our session, starting single-file. I'd only done karting
once before, about 10 years ago on an indoor track. That was a full
'championship' evening (heats, semis, final) & I came 2nd. This time it
was just a 15 minute session with no placings, but I whooped James &
Matt (4kmh faster average speed), & my fastest lap was 1/10th of a
second off the record for the day.
|
I'd love to do a wet session down there. Been twice, and bone dry both
|
I suspect it was way more fun in the wet, especially on slick tyres.
The steering did absolutely nothing unless you helped it with a dab of
brake then throttle.
|
Well, the brakes are needed in the dry too.

times.

2) Pool. SWMBO & I (who haven't played for years) versus James & Matt
(who play regularly). I cleared the table in two visits, before they'd
even potted a ball.
3) Bowling. I'd never done this before, whereas James & Matt play
fairly regularly. Three guesses who won...
As I seemed to be on a roll with things I hadn't done (much) before, I
decided to have a go at plastering the kitchen ceiling in the flat this
week. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Some things are definitely
best left to the experts...
|
Tricky coves, plastering.
|
Indeed. I could get a lovely smooth finish on approx. 1/8th of the
ceiling, but haven't got the shoulder strength to do anymore in one
hit. I'm getting a friendly plasterer to do it now, but I'll have a go
|
I've an idea - once he's plastered the ceiling, you could have a go at
|
Err... covering up the artex was one of the reasons for plastering it
in the first place.
|
Pff, you'll never get anywhere with that defeatist attitude.
|
|
artexing it.
|
at the walls where I've ripped tiles off - that should be a lot easier
as it's smaller sections & I can get my body weight behind the trowel.
