An age thing?

About to get my leg over again after a break of 6 years (no jokes
please!) and find myself feeling a bit wimpish. Worried about extra
traffic on the roads with less respect for bikers than ever and also
grip or lack of it due to diesel, poor road condition etc. Is it just me
(at 45 yrs old) or have I every right to be concerned? BTW it`s to be a
It's just you. Motorcycling is no more dangerous than it was six
years ago.
Maybe he was scared by reading MCN.

I leafed through it last week in the shop. Of vague interest was an article
about the #105 they want owners of stolen bikes to pay if their machine is
found, in order for them to stay with it and recover it. The alternative is
that they tell you where it is and you get it yourself, no matter how damaged.

So when mine got nicked, I signed the "I'll pay the dosh, please recover" box
as I thought if they find it, I don't want to be arsed trying to recover it.

They called when they found it and told me that as I hadn't signed, I'd have
to pick it up from where it was found. I told them that I had signed, and
they said the officer had moved on, couldn't get back there for several hours,
and I'd better pick it up myself.

Can I claim free money out of this? For all I know, when it was found by them,
it was in perfect nick[1]. Plus the inconvenience to me and danger of coming
face-to-hood with the thieves. I couldn't start it, and didn't want to leave
it, so called my uncle to give me a hand. It was okay until we got to the
bottom of my hill. We finished up with him towing me behind his Mondeo[2].

[1] True, my neighbour saw them drop it as they wheeled it down the road, but
let's ignore that for now.
[2] I know, of all the embarassing cars to be towed by.

07 Bandit 650 so tyre suggestions more than welcome for a short
commute/weekend blast rider.
If in doubt go for a couple of half hour refresher lessons with your
friendly local motorbike training company. Won't do any harm to be
reminded to do your life savers and give you time to regain your
indestructibility ;-) .

Cheers,
Paul
