Well, we all got here safely...

Me and the two bikes, to Jersey. Me in the cage with SWMBO and dogs on
Kewl. Enjoy.

D'you still want this here trailer, BTW?
Conditions of carriage imposed by the removal firm. The bikes went on a
container ship, the containers couldn't carry any inflammable liquids,
gasses or aerosols of any sort. Nor shotgun shells nor for that matter.
Took all those in the car on the ferry, where there are no such
restrictions. Probably something to do with the ferry being equipped to
fight fires while there's no crew in a container?
No, that went on a roro ferry with lots of other vehicles with fuel in
their tanks. If I'd driven the bikes on the ferry it would have been a
different matter but even I can only drive one vehicle at a time!

the fast ferry. The bikes in a 20-foot container. What a right royal
PITA it was draining all the fuel out of the bikes. Automatic
petrol-taps are great for safety in a bin, /very/ inconvenient when you
need to empty the tank! On the Zest I was able to syphon most off and
get the last three teacups out by loosening the tap on the bottom of the
Sounds like bollocks, removal firm probably don't know what they are on
about. The 2 bikes are currently on the way back from NY[1], in a
container, other option was a RoRo, neither stipulated anything about
fuel, and keys have to be with bikes so they can be started and moved.
My SV came back from Ottawa in a container and it had to be no more than
1/4 full. The keys stayed in my pocket.

I reckon your shippers just wanted to HAGM.

Trailer ?
Yebbut I'd have had to borrow or buy a trailer and get a towing-hitch
fitted to the cage, all at /my/ expense. The DHSS are paying the
removers and there was room in the containers.
Errm, ITYM us tax payers are paying.
Well close. Jersey Health and Social Service contributors are paying.
Just as (for example) Barclays account- and share-holders would be
paying if SWMBO was being head-hunted to work for them. It's quite
normal for an employer to offer relocation expenses when recruiting from
'abroad' - even in the UK. They had to have four three lots of
interviews for her job before they found the right candidate so I guess
they'd still be looking if they'd said 'Oh, BTW you up sticks and move
here entirely at your own expense'.
How much have you got stashed away in the Channel Islands, then?
You'd be wrong. It's not part of Britain, see?
Ah, that old chestnut

Makes a change, eh?
If you wish

tank. The Pan? no way Jose! There /is/ no drain point on the bottom of
the tank. I managed, eventually, to disconnect the fuel-line at the
(automatic) tap and then run a live from the battery to the pump and run
it for a couple of minutes at a time until it would pump no more. Was
pleasantly surprised when it only ran for less than a minute to empty
the carb-bowls and die. God knows when the air filter was last changed -
it was filthy!

a few litres in from a can this end! Just need a new air-filter. I
wonder how long that will take to get and how much I'll have to pay for
it here?
