The XYZ affair



In the 1920's and 30's it must have been common to see
bikes on the road with a big "X" painted on the gas tank:

However, I've never seen even one, not even one of these:

Apparently the big X was the 3rd largest American motorcycle
company in its day but unfortunately went under in 1931 along
with many others in the Depression. Even the Henlon Bro's brief
revival in 1999 lasted less than a production year, so the X
may be gone for good.

Here's a bike with a big "Y" on the gas tank, but it went
defunct even earlier (in 1915):

As for "Z", I can't find any -- unless there's a Kawasaki somewhere.
Thanks for the list. A quick browse with web-search Images found lots
of interesting bikes... but no stock model with a big "Z"
on the gas tank.
