Maximum range?
|
Does anyone know which bike has the greatest range (distance between
required refuelling stops) under fairly normal driving conditions? It has
to be a trade-off between tank capacity and mpg so any guesses what is
likely to return best average figures?
|
Royal Enfield Bullet Diesel, 200mpg and you can get a 20 litre tank for
them, only drawback is the 50mph top speed... great fun though.

You're in a class of two, really.
Honda ST1100 Pan European or a BMW GS with the optional 30-litre tank
(and even then, Big Tony managed to run out).
Both will manage 250+ miles.
Can't think of anything else, off-hand.

I've managed 280 miles on the 955 riding at a 'sensible' pace rather
than hooning. That was a mix of mid-Wales twisties, dual carriageway &
M4.

I read a test where they gave the predicted tank range of a Daytona like
mine as being 225 miles. I quite easily managed 180 miles once without
having to fill up, so it might be true.
|
My ZG1000 manages over 300 miles per tank if I ride like a gurl.
|
|
you must be riding like a girl then cos the maximum I ever got out of
a tank on the same bike was 155.

The fuel light comes on very early on my Daytona. If I fill up when it
comes on I can only get about 13 litre's worth into the 21 litre tank.
It's also a PITA to fill up as there's a long neck that protrudes
downwards into the tank, leaving an empty space at the top, presumably
for expansion in warm weather. If I'm doing a trip that I know will
empty the tank somewhat, I'll be patient and stand there pumping the
extra 2 litres in. Compared to the Bindit, it's incredibly economical at
similar speeds.

I've not ridden the Daytona at anything resembling silly speeds yet. The
whole point of me buying it was to slow down a bit.

would'nt a CG be in the running with 100mpg and 13.5 litre tank? :)
