07 BT mileage

I've only filled up twice but low thirties is not what I was getting
out of my last BT.

Does mileage improve drastically after breaking or will I always be
looking for a gas station at 120 miles? That's pretty disappointing
for a long distance bike.
that's better than the '01 I had at highway speeds

My FXD was pretty bad. I would get an average of 125 miles on a tank.
Never could get it running right after the stage 1.
i guess i should have said

Mine was a stock FLHT carbed
I would have thought the 07s would be better what with the extra power
and extra gear.

The FLHT*** OTOH, has been great.

My 99 FLHTCI TC88 would hit reserve before 120 miles just about every tank.
Even after 30,000 miles. One of many reasons I got rid of it.
What are you riding now Chuck?
Depends on the day. Couple of Evo HDs and a couple of BMWs. Nothing
newer than '99 though. If I could only have one it would be a BMW R-GS, but
I'll never get rid of the FLSTN. Love those Evos...

With my '07 Ultra I usually go 150-180 miles on a tank. Have anywhere from
.5-1 gallon of fuel in the tank when stopping to refuel (one time, this was
with my '04 Ultra, I made it to a station on fumes and it took 5.1
gallons--think I got 250 miles out of that tank).

Use a combination of trip meter and gauge to decide when I need to stop (and
the location of the next gas stop, naturally). The gas gauge on my '07 seems
a bit more accurate than my '04's, but I give more weight to the trip meter.

I generally ride longer between stops when riding alone. And on marathon
runs it definitely would be nice to have more range. Nothing like passing a
bunch of cages only to have to repeat it again due to a gas-stop.Wouldn't
mind having the range #103 has on his beemers.

Finally, my range is noticibly shortened by aggressive throttle usage and
speeds over 70 MPH (with another big drop kicking in at 85 MPH--with another
at 95). Weight, wind, and inclines have, of course, the usual effects.

YMMV.
Forget about checking until you get a coupla thou on. My mileage started
increasing around 3 - 5k or so. Even after the Stage 1 I'm getting around 40
mpg blasting down the slab at 80 mph. Ummm, YMMV.......

Cheers,

Every time I ask 'them in the know' about my '07 and it's
'peculiarities' I'm told they are "features". :-)

I got spoiled w/ my '01 FXST. 2-up, loaded T-bag and saddlebags I could
get 40 or better. Slimefest '06 last year was the first time I really
checked it and I averaged about 45 mpg at an avg of 70-75 mph. Carbed
and piped w/ the stage one.
