FOAK: Magnets in the house

Can anyone think of 5 uses for magnets in the house. I've done the
I notice no girlies have replied...

"But it can't mow the lawn or pay the mortgage".
Television

Washing machine.

fridge door and speakers but need another three. I need to know where
they are used and what they are doing.
Magnetic pick-up tool, the infamous 'magnet-onna-stick' that TOG
should have remembered.

Magnetic wrist bands that are supposed to counteract
travel/seasickness and arthiritis.

The compass wot every boy should have.

The little magnet in the handle of a decent screwdriver that holds the
screw to the tip.

The stylus of your record player.
That would be the cartridge in your record deck, if you're an old git.

The thing that moves the wotsit in a max/min thermometer.

In your microphones.

The magnetic strip on your credit cards.

In televisions and monitors.

Take your pick.
Magnetic "bits" trays, like what you use so's your bike bits don't get eaten
What you need is a magnetic wing cover, not one that just has a strip
to attach to the car, you can get them that are magnetic all over. I
put mine under the bike/car just in case when I'm tinkering.

by the nut monster.
moving towards on-topic uses: (some) tankbags; older ignition systems;
speedometers (impulse giving), also for cycle computers.

..and yes. I _am_ asking for help with my 8 year old son's homework :)
Telephone, loud speakers, electric clocks, door closures, tv, radio

is this enough?
Cupboard doors, anything with an electric motor, some types of
electronic scales, vital components of the 'magnetron' in a
microwave...
Magnetic knife rack in kitchen
As part of any electric motor
Kitchen cupboard doors
Here's one you should've thought of earlier. Guitar pick-up's
Storing pins, if there's a sewing machine in the house. Erase head on
cheap cassette recorder. Cupboard door catches. Magnetic pick-up
tools. Magnetic screwdriver. Most DC motors - I'm assuming just
permanent magnets here.

Outside the house: compass.
1. Magnetic knife holder
2. Holding doors closed
3. Television/monitor to bend the electron path in a CRT
4. Powercord on a Mac Book Pro so that it pops out if the cable is tripped
over
5. Magnetix kids toys to hold things together
Aren't there magnets in those catalyser things[1] that pull the ions out of
your hard water?

Oh, yes, so there are:

[1]We found an inline jobbie that had been fitted to the incoming water
supply by the previous owners when we bought this house. It's gone now.
Do electro-magnets count? Door bell.
Got any on the fuel lines in your car or bike?

Anything wiv an electric motor.

Anything with a relay/solenoid.
Door latches.
Knife rack
electric motors
video and tape recorder heads
etc. etc.
Handbag catches
Subito
alarm sensors on windows and doors
catflaps
fridge door seals are also magnetic to keep the doors shut
Ainslie
Vibrators.

That thing wot holds the rechargeable torch to the charging unit on
the wall.
Guitar pick ups
Computer hard disc drives.
..and what do they do?
Work like a speaker with a coil of wire, but move a read / write head
across the disk instead of moving a bit of paper / plastic in and out.
Read and write the data to the patter by arranging particles or summat
like that.

A picture frame I've got attaches it's back with magnets.

The front of my fireplace in the living room also attaches with
magnets.
Oooh when did you get that?
Television, they're used to keep the picture in proportion.
Microwave oven magnetron magnets
Magnetic cupboard door latches
Electric clock motors
Lots inside a VCR
Pickups on electric guitars
