Painting tank

I have a tank that I am almost done painting...I need some help
regarding the final phases...

What I have done so far:

- primed with dura-color primer
- put about 2 color coats of dura color, sanded heavily for consitency
and smoothness
- put another coat and had a few runs

Today I will sand it again to remove runs and put a last color coat.
Hopefully all will be ready for a clear. However, I have been getting
mixed reviews. Some tell me to sand right before I put a clear on. Some
tell me NOT to worry, as it is just for color coverage, so it does not
matter if it is a little grainy. I am confused. I can see where it may
be for color coverage. But maybe it is beneficial to get it smooth? I
have 320, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 grit available. Please tell me what I
would need to do after putting on my last coat of color up until it is
done. As this is where I stand.

I am intrested to hear your opinions especially those that have a good
proven method with spray painting.

Thanks for helping a fellow biker.
I've painted a number of bikes over the years, with very good results.
Even with rattle can jobs.

It's best *NOT* to sand the last color coat. Just make sure your last
color coat is consistant, and even. Maybe even a couple of *very* light
coats for your last color coat.
Definitely not an expert but the colour coat should not be sanded unless
the curing time has been exceeded. The clear coat should be applied
within a few hours of the base, if this has been extended you will need
to re-key the base.
