Help: 2 gallons to the mile.
|
I went to start my GSX600F and the fuel gauge was showing empty. It was full
the last time I took it out and that was only to Tescos, about a mile round
trip. I put a can of petrol in it and it started to leak out on to the
patio. I removed the fairing and found it dripping from the seam where the
bottom of the tank meets its side, near the fuel tap. There are no holes or
rust spots it just looks like the seam has come away. Any ideas where I can
get it fixed (cheaply) please.

Ebay item 220053776569 - then spray it the colour you want.

I've just bought it, cheers.

Two fish in a tank. One asks the other, "Know how to drive this thing?"

As Nige says....Temporary fix though.
Drain it, wash out thoroughly with strong soapy water of the like, leave
open to dry and take to nearest engineering shop and get mig welded. Might
be more tricky if alloy, so maybe look for a local ally welder.
Unless you can spread the crack slightly and squeeze araldite between the
seam and clamp up it's gonna possibly need a paint retouch after welding

A bloke i know used a big fook off tube & did it from the inside but
you dom have to be pretty precise.

It would need to be brazed, but with it being a petrol tank you may
have some difficulty persuading anyone attempt it due to the risk of it
exploding. I had the same problem years ago and the suggestion was that
it had to be steam cleaned, then filled with exhaust fumes to prevent
it exploding whilst brazing it - the guy was not though willing to have
a go at it, too great a risk said he.

Whats the tank made out of Molly? You have many options, but a mega
cheap fix for any petrol leak is blu-tac. It solidifies when in contact
with petrol & is a great 'get you home' fix.

As TOG and others have said, it is fooked. The other side will go next, then
the bit that is just under the nose of the seat.
Get thee to a breakers or ebay or partsearch, and no, you're not having my
spare.
