glove size- what is a good fit for a glove?

I have trouble fitting Olympia gloves. My glove size is about a 9 with
about 3 1/2 inches across the knucles. It seems though the large size is
too large, and the medium size is a little tight. I thought the gloves
would stretch but that doesn't seem to be happening. So my question is...
is it better to have gloves tight (tips of fingers pressing on ends of
fingers, but otherwise not restricting movement... and a bit tricky to get
on?) or loose (a little space in the tip of the fingers, easy to get on-
pulls off with moderate force even when fastened and overall feels a bit
floppy?).
Try a different brand. I've got two sets of Olympias(ok, one set of full
olympias and 1 set of Widder, which are olympia shells), and my hands
fairly well swim in them. 1 pair is a large and 1 pair is a medium and
both are fairly loose, where I usually wear a large in most other gloves.
The gloves are pretty warm, but fit wise, I've got others that work better.

My favorite gloves have been some AGVs(which disentegrated after a year and
a half due to rain, I think), some mesh gloves(air tech?) I got from dennis
kirk, and some roadgear(I think) I picked up at the honda hoot last year
for $30. First gears are well made, but a little too warm for GA.
