virago 1100 solenoid

When I push the starter button the gears engage, but the starter does
not spin. I can get it to by jumping the solenoid with a screw driver.
Is the solenoid bad?
Sure sounds like it. On my Bosch starter, a new aftermarket
solenoid cost about $30, so it was a no brainer to replace it
instead of trying to figure out the problem.
Viragos have a well know starter problem. web-search Virago starter fix,
or check out the Virago Owners Group site for info. It is a relatively
easy fix.
The common Virago starter problem is related to grinding, not bad solenoids.
That could be what he is hearing. Jamming the screwdriver across the
solenoid could be enough push to get the gears to engage. Just a
thought.
