Odometer/Speedometer Cable

Everyone have an egg nog with brandy and a Merry Christmas while I ask for
some advice;
I like egg nogg and brandy.

I have a '95 ultra and the knob for the odometer will not turn any more
and zero the numbers. It started to get harder and harder to turn until it
just quit. The numbers still turn with the correct mileage but cannot be
zeroed. I looked in the shop manual and cannot find any reference to the
odometer in regards if it has a separate cable from the speedometer as I
think it does and may be twisted, broke or whatever. I can take the outer
fairing off but need some guidance as what to look for.
The same cable drives both the speedometer mile counter and the
odometer (internal linking gears). The knob just releases the link
allowing you to reset the odmeter. Try getting some penetrating oil in
where the knob goes thru' the speedo housing.
