Returning to motorcycling after a long while...........
|
I am seriously considering buying a secondhand motorbike. It will be
used for commuting in London and for the occasional jaunt out of town.
I am not going to be a fanatic but would like something reliable and
that is easy to maintain.
Previous bikes were a CZ 125 and a Jawa 350.
One bike I have always fancied is a BMW boxer twin but am worried about
huge repair bills if anything serious goes wrong.
Are there bike auctions or big bike centres like Great Trade Centre in
Willesden where I got my Audi which runs very well.
Any advice here guys??

As Thumper says, airheads are pretty easy to fix yourself. About
the same level of complexity as the original VW beetle and easier
to get to all the parts. I own an '88 with over 100k miles on it, none
of them easy miles either. An R65 would be an excellent commuter
bike.
An alternate choice might be a K75 or K100. Slightly more complex,
but fairly low prices locally (SF bay area) at least. In many cases,
they're less expensive than an older airhead and seem equally
bulletproof. Probably not as good a choice as the airhead if you do
your own work unless you are skilled.

Airheads are a no brainer to fix. Oilheads, OTOH.

Thanks for your input - loved the airheads site
