1983 Honda Shadow VT750 Rear Cylinder Not Working

I just purchased a 1983 Honda Shadow VT750. The bike starts fine, but

Congratulations! I'm having a good time with mine.

the rear cylinders do not run. I replaced all four spark plugs and
there are sparks to all four cylinders. The front cylinders run fine,
but the rear don't even work, they remains cold after I run it for a
while. Because it's only running on the front cylinders, it's only got
half power.

It's probably crud in the carb for the rear cylinder, take it off and
clean it.
By the way, your engine has four spark plugs, two per cylinder. It doesn't
have four cylinders.

Is it a carbuerator problem, fuel line problem, gasket problem? I am

See the previous two replies. Check the compression on both
cylinders:
1. run the motor until it warms up to normal operating temp
2. stop the motor, disconnect both spark plug caps
and remove one spark plug from each cylinder
3. Insert compression gauge. Open throttle all the way
and crank the engine until the gauge stops rising (4-7 secs)
4. normal reading is 171 +/- 28 psi.
5. if compression is low, check for worn valves, leaking
cyl head gasket or worn piston/ring/cylinder.
6. if compression abnormally high, check for carbon
deposit on combustion chamber and/or piston crown.
(also inspect plug).
If compression is ok and you've got spark (at the right timing)
the problem has to be with the carbs and/or fuel supply. If someone
stored the bike long term without draining the gas the carbs
could be gunked up.

still very new to this, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also,
can you please tell me how to take the seat off? I apologize for my

Remove the tool kit from the back of the sissy bar (with the key).
This will reveal two machine nuts (10 mm as I remember) towards
the top. Removing these will release the rear seat which, when
removed, will then reveal two more 10mm machine nuts that hold
the front seat. Remove these and lift the back of the front seat
and slide it back.

newness to all of this, but excited to own this bike! Thank you in
