Are there any motorcycling Parrotheads out there?
|
Every so often I run into someone who is both a rider and a Jimmy
Buffett fan. Sometimes they are on the Buffett mailing lists, but more
|
I am (well, sort of - I haven't ridden since March when I took a spill
and got to see the world from a wheelchair again, but I've healed up
enough to ride a lighter bike, and it gets delivered tonight so maybe I
can call myself a rider again) and I know several others.
Strange thing - all the rider Buffet fans I know are also pilots.
Coincidence?
|
Interesting observation. I cannot think of too many pilot Parrotheads
although there was a guy on one of my mailing lists some time ago who
owned his own Grumman Albatross. And I know a Parrothead gal who owns
an early, small Cessna that I hear will likely never fly again. Lots
of interest, but except for the one guy with the Albatross not much of
an opportunity to fly privately.
The motorcycle club that I am President of was founded by a commercial
pilot. BMW of Daytona has had about 5 owners in the last 10 years and
two of them were also commercial pilots; one of those two moved to the
northern Florida area and has remained active in the clubs and
charities that I have been involved with. All three were MD80/MD90
pilots. We also have several other guys in the vintage motorcycle club
who are private pilots. Alas, none of them are
pilots/Parrotheads/riders as far as I know.
We seem to have plenty of rider/pilots and some Parrotheads with one
interest or the other, but few with all three interests. I would
certainly be happy to meet a few folks who could juggle that much stuff

Licensed ASEL, ASES, & Glider Pilot... Licensed motorcycle rider for 13
years (so... I waited a while)... and a die-hard Parrothead...

at once ;)

often than not they are fellow riders that I run into that also have an
interest in things tropical and Buffettesque.

I got his greatest hits (Meet me in Margaritaville) CD for my birthday
from my niece. He seems okay I guess. Okay for parties. He's not
|
That means she thinks you're really really old, and probably
have Alzheimers :-)
|
LOL! Probably. My feeling is that someone got it for her as a gift and
she never broke the seal. When my birthday came along, she knew *just*
who to give it to! :-) Oh, well. Like I said, it's not bad, but it's
not who I'm looking forward to listening to when I need to really
*listen* to something...
Like these guys...
|
Nice - little touch of Jack Bruce / Ginger Baker ( w/o the
Clapton ), little touch of retro psychedelia, a hint of Wishbone Ash
....
|
Nice stuff...
|
He seems okay I guess. Okay for parties. He's not
|
annoying (like gangsa rap), but he's definately no Clapton.
I'm really diggin' 'Porcupine Tree' and 'Days of the New' lately.
|
The great part about Rayvan having Alzheimers is that his niece knows
what to get him. She probably gave him the same CD for Christmas and
his birthday last year. And since he liked it, she figured why not
give it again ! :-)
|
But the *best* part about having Alzheimers is you get to meet new
people all the time!
|
And you never have to sleep with the same woman twice !
|
|
The worst part about Alzheimers is being a friend or relative of the
person.
"What day is it?"
"It's Wednesday, and that's the 30th time you've asked me in the last
hour."
"What did you do with my book?"
"I didn't do anything with your book."
"Yes you did. Give it back to me now! If you don't give it back, I'm
calling the police!"
Medical sources show no treatment for Alzheimer patients, but there
are volumes for the treatment of caregivers.

I set up a Buffett mailing list several days ago at
but I think that I'm going to expand that a bit and try to incorporate
some motorcycling as it relates to Buffettesque places and such. After
all, a lot of the Parrotheads from years ago have now become GOP's
(Grumpy Old Parrotheads) and it seems like only those of us that ride
are getting out and seeing the World these days (a gross
oversimplification AND MEANT AS A BIT OF A JOKE but I do find that
among folks that love to travel that many of us do it by motorcycle).
Anyhow, whether you ride or not, but especially if you ride, drop by
and we'll have to see if we cannot tell some tales.
